Standing With Ukraine

April 16, 2022
Good morning,

With the Federal Reserve anticipated to take more aggressive steps to fight inflation, interest rates rose further in the past week and hit the highest level since late 2018. Despite the increase, the housing market has remained solid so far this year, and there are signs that point to a robust home buying season in the upcoming months.

Our supply situation should improve in the near term. Home prices, meanwhile, are also expected to rise but at a more moderate pace than earlier this year.

Did You Know? Friday, April 15th - would normally be tax day, but for most Americans this year, the tax-filing deadline is April 18. It isn’t April 15 because of the Emancipation Day holiday in Washington, D.C., and the subsequent weekend. In Maine and Massachusetts, the deadline is April 19 because of the Patriots’ Day holiday. (WSJ)

Did You Know? The interest rate on America’s most popular mortgage - the 30-year fixed rate mortgage - hit 5% for the first time in more than a decade, extending a sharp rise that has yet to significantly slow the red-hot housing market. (WSJ)

Did You Know? High end furniture rentals could become a $1 billion business, and no, not just for staging properties for sale. Jeffries says that spending on furniture subscriptions on direct-to-consumer platforms will approach $1 billion in 5 years, up from some $150 million today. This could build loyalty with consumers prior to first-time home buying age... (Barrons)

Did You Know? Used Car sales surged during COVID.....and while CarMax saw its used car unit sales drop 6.5%, revenue rose 32.6% due to average selling prices that skyrocketed. Could rising home prices offset lower sales volume too?

Did You Know? Both Amazon and Space-X are developing global low-flying satellite networks for internet access anywhere.... so much for selling books!

Did You Know? Fentanyl is killing our children, our husbands, and our co-workers. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office just filed charges in the largest drug bust in Orange County in the last 16 years. Police recovered enough fentanyl to kill 4.7 million people. That’s enough fentanyl to kill 1 ½ times the entire population of Orange County - WOW.
