With the massive new demands for electricity, should we expect a surge in NUCLEAR facilities? How would you react to one built near your neighborhood? One nuclear reactor produces the equivalent of 800 wind turbines, or 8.5 million solar panels, is carbon-free. Already 48% of the clean energy in the U.S. comes from nuclear. But nuclear has a terrible safety perception after a few massive meltdowns globally. The death rate per unit of electricity production is 3.5X greater than solar, the safest.....but....351X safer than coal, 263X safer than oil and 40X safer than natural gas. What happens to the nuclear waste? If you gathered all the used nuclear fuel produced by the U.S. in the last 60 years, it would occupy 10 yards of a football field.... Researchers have estimated that a single ChatGPT query requires almost 10 times as much electricity to process as a traditional Google search. By 2034 annual global energy consumption by data centers is expected to top 1,580 terawatt-hours—about as much as is used by all of India—compared to about 500 today. Data centers need to be cooled and can consume more than a billion liters of water a day — much of it drinking quality, enough to supply 3.3 million people for a day. Metals like steel, silicon, quartz, copper and germanium are required to manufacture chips, circuits, and processors. (Bloomberg)
